History of JAEP
JAEP has been set up in memory of Revd Canon Dr. John Aves. We became an independent charity in November 2016 (Charity Number 1170414).
John was visiting the Holy Land in 2003/2004 as part of the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI). He enjoyed the dialogue with both the Israeli and Palestinian communities and was preparing to spend the last two weeks of his three month term at the Mar Saba Monastery outside Bethlehem. Tragically John died suddenly in Bethlehem at the age of 52.
John was a man of faith who was filled with hope in mankind because of the people he met in Dheisheh. He found that they are placing their hopes for a better future in educating their children. This was something that John profoundly believed is vital if we are to improve the world by reducing inequality and discrimination.
JAEP was founded to fulfil his vision by providing financial support to young people from Dheisheh to study at their local universities.
