Right Revd Graham James

Position: 
Patron
Right Reverend Graham James, Bishop of Norwich is well known to us all since becoming our Bishop in 1999. Bishop Graham as the Church of England lead spokesperson on media issues is called on to articulate a response to world events including the Middle East. Bishop Graham is the Patron of JAEP and has always been a huge encourager and supporter for our project.

Anne Aves

Position: 
Trustee and Chair
Anne is the widow of John, is whose memory JAEP was founded. She worked at City College Norwich from 1984 until her retirement in 2013 but continues to do some very part time teaching. Her roles have included teaching, Head of Department and managing regional projects to re-engage vulnerable young people. As part of this role Anne built up partnerships with local organisations including YMCA. Anne is a Trustee for YMCA Norfolk. Anne has returned to Dheisheh Camp, Al Quds and Bethlehem universities a number of times.

Nick Taylor

Position: 
Trustee and Treasurer
Nick is a retired local businessman with good financial and management skills. His companies won many local and national business awards and he brings a discipline and focus to the charity

Liz Magem

Position: 
Trustee and Secretary
Liz Magem is the secretary for our committee. Liz has been involved in education for nearly 24 years. Her roles have included Head of Department at City College Norwich, a training consultant for Aviva and a principal lecturer for QA, the UK's leading learning company. Liz and Anne Aves have been friends for over 30 years, and through that friendship Liz came to know John.

Samia Tabari

Position: 
Committee member Middle East Regional Link
She is a social development expert with a focus on women and children and youth programmes, primarily in the Middle East. She retains professional and personal connections to the Middle East and speaks Arabic. Samia offers advice on the appropriateness of funding applicants. She is based in Norwich.

Peter Varney

Position: 
Trustee and Quaker Link
Member of Norwich Quaker meeting and retired Anglican priest. He has made several visits and pilgrimages to the Holy Land over the past 50 years. He has served as a trustee for other charities with work outside the UK and worked as hospital chaplain and counsellor

Ben Aves

Position: 
Family member
Ben is a founder member of the John Aves Education Project and has visited Dheisheh a number of times. Ben had many wide reaching conversations with Bahaa Milhem, (the first JAEP student) while he was living as part of the family.

Edmund Aves

Position: 
Family member
Edmund is a founder member of the John Aves Education Project and has visited Dheisheh Camp a number of times, including a month living in IBDAA Cultural Center located in Dheisheh (John lived and worked in this centre, more information can be found in the about section of this website) spending time with a number of the students in John's classes. Photographs from these visits can be found in the gallery section of this website.
